Absolutely nothing has been done as far as this project goes, but the intentions are still there. I'll keep you all posted. :)

Not a lot to report today.

I did a test to see how long the DS would last on a fully charged battery, with the Download Station running. I started it at 10:53 this morning, and it ran closed most of the day, except for the occasional check to see if anyone had downloaded from it. No one did, except one of my co-workers who knew I had it, he downloaded the Meteos demo. With just that single download, sitting idly all day, it lasted til around 9:50 before the light went red, and then it went off altogether sometime between 11 and 12:30(I completely forgot to watch it). This is promising because I read that the solar panel doesn't charge it super fast, but it doesn't seem like it will have to. Seems like a good solution.

I'm really really hoping that this will get some publicity and Nintendo will see this as a real opportunity for them to sell a few more games. The demos alone have convinced me to buy more than one game. I think it would be really really neat if someone from Nintendo were to contact me and send me more in the future. Not counting on it, but it would definitely be sweet.

Anyways, we'll see how things progress over the weekend. Thanks for your interest. :)

So I've found this: http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/zz-psp-solar.html

Now I just need to find a way to attach that to the scooter in a way that it will survive rain and such, and also look fairly decent. Suggestions?

So here's the story:

A few days ago, I got this idea. I've got a scooter and a spare DS, I should make a mobile download station. Normally, my ideas don't come to fruition, much less overnight. Today, I went to my local Toys R Us to get the Animal Crossing downloads that they didn't have yet as of Monday, and it just so happens that the Nintendo rep was there setting it up. She saw my DS and asked if, by chance, I had Animal Crossing with me because she wanted to test the download station. I assured her that I did and that in fact, that's what I was there for, and she was overjoyed because I could test it out. She walked me through the process and used me as an example to explain to the employees what I was doing, and then she walked away to set some other stuff up and to teach some employees about other products. At some point in our conversation, before she walked away, I told her about my idea and that I'd unsuccessfully been trying to get a Download Station card off of eBay. She said that they're hard to come by because Nintendo traces the serial numbers and whatnot and also makes the reps take inventory. I figured I was S.O.L. While she was talking with the employees, I noticed the mesh pouch on her bag was FULL of the Download Station cards, and pondered stealing one, she'd never notice, right? I resisted and eventually she made her way back over to me to see how I was progressing with the downloads. I asked what I got for being her guinea pig, if she had any t-shirts or lanyards or anything, and she said she didn't have any of that stuff with her, but I seemed like a true Nintendo fan with good intentions, so here, and she tossed me the Volume One Download Station card. I almost pooped in my pants. She then said not to try and get the second one yet because she was JUST putting that one in stores. I wanted to hug her.

So that gets me one step closer to the mobile Download Station being a reality. I'm not sure what the battery life is like while running the cart and I'm thinking about trying to come up with a solar powered solution. After fiddling with the cart today, here's what I've learned: It's a very simple interface, almost MS-DOS like, that gives stats about how many download slots are active(there are 15 of them) and how many times each game or clip has been attempted and successfully downloaded. I will update periodically with these stats in the following format:

GAME | # OF ATTEMPTS | # OF SUCCESSFUL DOWNLOADS

The games are coded as follows:

AGFEdemo - True Swing Golf Demo
AMCEdemo - Mario Kart DS Demo
AMFEclop - Metroid Prime Hunters Movie
AMTEdemo - Meteos Demo
ANDEdemo - Brain Age Demo
APTEdemo - Pokemon Trozei Demo
ATTEdemo - Tetris Standard Demo
ATTEpush - Tetris Push Mode Demo

There are also two other stats, one is how many times the menu has been loaded and the other is some sort of test code. I'll have to look into that later. I'll keep you posted with the success of the station. Here's to hoping it's a hit. :)
